Last month I did my first ever podcast interview.

Nerve wracking? Check.

Anxiety provoking? Check.

Intellectually challenging? Check.

The invitation to talk with Lourdes Viado on her podcast Women in Depth: Conversations about the Inner Lives of Women came after I shared my article The Wound of The Negligent Father on social media.

“Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.” ― Anais Nin

I was flattered and overwhelmed by the opportunity and truly enjoyed getting to know Lourdes via her podcast (of which I had been previously unaware). Women in Depth is full of beautiful conversations with experts and practitioners in the world of healing and depth psychology.

This podcast episode was essentially a conversation about the phenomenon of paternal abandonment and emotional neglect. This is both something I see with clients in my practices and it is also a part of my own life’s journey. I discuss how this situation can arise, what it looks and feels like to experience this as a child and the life-long effects it can have on one’s sense of self.

I also talk about the ways this primary relationship-rejection can affect all of the other relationships of our lives and I explore some ways we can begin to heal.

This podcast is part of the inspiration behind my upcoming course The Father Fix: Heal Your Heartbreak and Reclaim Your Value which is currently in the works!

Reach out if you can relate, want to get my newsletter so you can sign up for the class as soon as it is available, or if you have any questions or special requests about this important topic.

Lastly, stay tuned for part 2 of this conversation with Lourdes coming in the new year! We’ll be discussing how we can best support children who are in the throes of this experience with their own fathers.
